LIGHT TO THE GENTILES
Israel does not exist for its own sake alone. God created the Jewish people as the means of bringing the nations, the goyim, back to Himself. God so loved the Gentiles that He created the Jews to be a light to them. He called Israel to be a holy people who would represent Him to the world. Is. 43:10
He established a covenant relationship with Israel, calling Himself the God of Israel. In that covenant relationship, He gave great promises of both judgment for disobedience and blessing for faithfulness.
He caused His glory to visibly dwell in the midst of Israel, and revealed Himself as Father, Shepherd, Savior, Lord, and King. Through the Jewish people He has given to the world the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation, including His holy law. He has given the patriarchs, the prophets, and the Messiah. Through His New Covenant with Israel, all people can be brought to repentance, faith, and righteousness.
Being Jewish is a responsibility that can only be fulfilled through a living relationship with the God who created the Jewish people. It is a responsibility that can only be fulfilled through receiving and giving His light. It is a responsibility that most shun because it is not usually easy or well appreciated, as all the prophets can attest. In a world that is trapped in darkness, hostile towards God, it is nevertheless the most essential of callings.
